So yeah, there's my funny, slightly depressing account of my week before Christmas.

I tried to get some of the good points in there too :)

I'm very, very thankful for all the wonderful people I have around me who I know will always be there to help me through anything life throws at me.

Some good points: I'm able to go to my Grandad's funeral next week so I'll get to spend time with my family which I didn;t think I'd be able to the Christmas. Also, Ralph has a clean house, lots and lots of treats and a snuggly new bed, so even if he only has a few days left in him they will be full of niceness.

UPDATE (26/12/11): Poor little Ralph died today. Hopefully he wasn't in too much pain when it happened. I buried him in a peppermint tea box, so at least it'll smell nice for him :,)

Here's an 8-page comic I made back in September.
It's kind of cool to look back on now as I think I've improved a lot since then :)
It's meant to be going on Top Shelf 2.0's website sometime, but I wanted you guys to see it before the new year, as it was done such a long time ago.

This is a project I've been working with alongside the designers and other good folk at Northcliffe Media.

I drew the characters, then the designers coloured and vectorised the images. This image above shows some of the millions (OK, not millions, but maybe like, 18!) of items you get in these packs Northcliffe have got printed.

I had to get one of me in there, right? This is my fave item - a self assembly reindeer, ain't he cute??

I've really enjoyed this project, and I like the thought of lots of little kiddles opening their packs on Christmas eve :)

Vicky Park - it really happened!

Fred Leicester

I was commissioned by the Leicester Mercury to do an illustration for their 'Fred Leicester' opinion column. I made up this grumpy-looking man for it, I kinda dig him :)

They flipped the image round to use in the actual paper. I don't think I'll even get used to seeing my stuff the other way around...it just looks strange to me. Everyone that isn't me has told me it still looks fine though!

You can see Fred Leicester in all his grumpy glory every Saturday in the Leicester Mercury.

It's called 'FLEW!' and, quite predictably, it is about flying.
Here's the first three pages, I might change them later but I'm pretty pleased with how they've turned out.

I'd love to hear what people think of them.
Does it make you want to see more? Or does it bore you to pieces? You can be honest, I can take it. I'm very brave and strong.

For those of you wondering what's happened to 'Clara' don't worry! She's still on my mind, she's just turned into a much bigger project than I had anticipated, so it may be a while before she's an actual printed comic.

Hello friends,

So this week has been very exciting and filled with good news!
I am to be the first cartoonist for the Leicester Mercury, Leicester's local paper!

I will have a cartoon strip in the new weekend supplement 'More' every week!
The strip will be about Leicester student, 'Vicky Park' (for those of you not from Leicester, this is a VERY funny joke - Leicester has a park called 'Victoria Park', but lots of the locals call it 'Vicky Park')

I thought I'd draw this sketch in celebration. Vicky's on the right, on the left is her little sis, Abbie.

The first strip will be in 'More' which will come with the Leicester Mercury on Saturday, October 29th. Pleeeease buy it if you're local to Leicester! And then show your friends and go 'oooh' and 'aaaahh' about it like I will be :)

Sooo...I'm pretty rubbish at keeping my own secrets.

I have quite an exciting illustration job in the pipeline but I don't want to talk about it properly on the interwebs until contracts have been signed and whatnot. (Because it probably will fall through knowing my luck!)

But I couldn't help but share this little detail of one of the drawings. I've fallen a little bit in love with this character. She's called Abbie and she's 15 years old. She's a teeny bit emo and gloomy. But hella cute, no?

Anyway, I'll let you know if it's good news, if it isn't I'll just stay quiet and sulk for a bit. And probably dye my hair like emo-Abbie.

I did these yesterday. Some were done on a train from Nottingham. Others in a pub. See if you can guess which!

This is law duck. I was walking through my old uni campus the other day and there was a duck just sat on the pavement. The uni is kinda near a canal but it was strange to see one so far into human-ville. I daydreamed about him studying in the law department.

Aeroplane Dog feels good about being Aeroplane Dog.

I tried to draw Cuddles from memory. If you don't know who Cuddles is, dude, you need to go here.

Here's some food I like. Just for kicks I gave them all human names.

My phone is very old. So I drew round it and made it more exciting. AND gave it a friend. I'm kind.

The Immune System

This is the forth and final story I'll be doing for the charity I've been working with.
The charity looks after children who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness.
The other three stories were about The Blood, a visit to the clinic, and the importance of taking your medicine.

Rufus nommed his food so quickly once that he gave himself hiccups. :D

Rufus doesn't understand what his scratching post is for and will scratch almost ANYTHING ELSE IN THE HOUSE.

He also spends hours burying his poop in the litter box. I think sometimes he does it for so long he forgets why he was doing it in the first place and just showers the rest of the room with litter.

I still love him though <3

My first mural!

I finished my first mural today! I painted a jungle scene on the walls of a nursery room for a lovely couple who are expecting a baby very soon.

I'll be making leaflets soon about my mural-painting services, and hopefully, now that I have examples of what I can do, I'll be doing a lot more in the future :)

The floating monkey will actually be sitting on top of a wardrobe once the room is finished - he'll make a lot more sense then, hehe!

This lion cub is my favourite :D

My Friends at the Clinic

For those of you who know me well (and are kind enough to listen to my rantings) you'll know that I've been having trouble with BT. I cancelled my account a year ago when I moved to Leicester from London and for some reason this wasn't recorded on their 'system'. Since then they've been ringing me saying I owe them lots of money and none of the conversations I've had with them to explain/complain seem to have been recorded, so each time I ring about it I have to go through the whole thing again. Rather than kill someone, I thought I'd try to make some 'art' to get rid of the anger. It didn't work so well...

Trinity Guildhall submission

Trinity Guildhall college in London are looking to change the look of their current text books. They asked if I wanted to come up with a rough, mock-up idea for them, so I did!
The books will mainly be used for children and teenagers, but they wanted a design that wouldn't put adults off buying it as well.
I went for a sort of comic book type character and a colourful, fresh design that is (hopefully) not too childlike...

Paul started the first panel then sent it to me to finish - then when I'd finished it I started the next one and so on and so on. There isn't a set storyline so god knows what will end up happening...

It's for a competition that will get the business some funding and hopefully me some monies and publicity! So this isn't really like the stuff I usually draw, I mean, for a start there aren't any cute, cuddly animals! But I had a dream about this landscape the other night so I had to try and put it on paper:

I dunno how obvious it is, but it's meant to be three mountains with really tall houses precariously balanced on top of them, and then a little village in the middle of them.

Weird dream though, huh?

After a meeting, we decided what needed to be changed about the characters and also which new ones needed to be added to the gang :)

P.S. James (my boyfriend) isn't really that critical about my work and hardly /ever/ hits me over the head with a baseball bat.
He does get annoyed when people write songs about writing songs though.
Gotta have our quirks I guess.
